Last week, we discussed the importance of getting rid of old ideologies and embracing new ones, so that you can walk into your future free from any mind baggage that could possibly damage your legacy.
This week, we’ll discuss the second way to outrun your history, which is:
2) Shut Down Your Younger, Negative Voice. I believe that the “little” version of us tends to creep up whenever we’re facing a giant that we have to slay in order to move forward. We all know the story of David and Goliath, so I’m sure you’re aware of what I’m referencing when I say giant.
It would be easy to say that when we’re in front of the giant, we could just slay it and burst forward into destiny. But the truth is, no matter what you’re upbringing was like, there’s a younger version of you that may be experiencing a void.
That younger version will continue to sabotage your progress as long as you believe that you have to fill that void in order to move forward into destiny.
You’ll be running your business one day and figuring out how to satisfy the appetite of your younger self the next.
I'm not negating the importance of healing from past wounds or childhood scars - you'll definitely need to sort through those things to function at full capacity in order to be the best you that you can be - however, healing doesn't always equal resolution.
Sometimes it means understanding the pain and working through it so that it doesn't ruin you; not that you'll receive a resolve that fully satisfies the void or negative experience you had.
It's important to understand that you'll need to shut down that younger, negative voice whenever it gets in the way of progress. Learn to prioritize your healing (personal) and your business (legacy) by giving time to both, just not at the same time.
Lastly, shutting down your younger, negative voice doesn't mean ignoring it. Remember I said it's important to work on your baggage; just don't let your baggage work on you.
Next week, we'll conclude this 3 part series on how to outrun your history.
