The Weight of The Wait Day Two - The Prison Hour
Lord, give me the strength I need to make it to the palace...
Hey Brave Hearts for Christ,
Man, when I tell you I’ve read Genesis 37 through 50 so many times over the years, I mean I’ve literally sat down and read it word-for-word at least twenty times. That’s because every season brings with it a prison hour and Joseph is our guy. He understood the assignment every time he faced a hardship. Spiritual solitude was his norm and staying faithful to God was second nature to him.
The other reason is because every season I learned something totally different from it. This past season, I meditated mostly on Genesis 41. I had to truly come to terms with the provision of silence. I have found that many of us enjoying drawing closer to God but when we do, we want Him to show up and prove Himself to us. We may not say it, but it’s true. The minute He isn’t speaking, we become entitled and we fuss about how we woke up at four a.m. just to hear what He had to say.
But there’s provision in silence. Not just in shutting down outside voices of influence – but in appreciating the quiet moments where God is testing your belief. You know that saying – the teacher is always quiet when the student is taking the test. As cliché as it is, it’s true. What you learned and went through in the previous season has equipped you for this prison hour. The hour where you get no visitors, no phone calls and you eat loneliness for dinner.

When God is silent in that prison hour, you may feel forsaken and abandoned, but He’s talking. He’s just not talking to you. But when you’re released from prison, you’ll realize that He was talking all along. He was talking to Pharoah about you. The Chief Baker didn’t remember Joseph just because Pharoah had a dream – he remembered him because that was the divine moment when God wanted Joseph to be remembered. You think that was the first time Pharoah had a dream he needed to know the meaning of?
God intentionally set Joseph up to be remembered during a time where He would get the maximum glory and Joseph would get the maximum return on his investment of faith. This makes me think of “Intentional” by Travis Greene. God is indeed intentional in all things. Even in the silence.
