Anchored to God’s Heart
Our world is going through it. We can see it on our news feeds, phones, and even as we lean into conversations with our friends and family. When Donald Trump was announced as the winner of the 2024 election, so many people showed up on our timelines expressing their fears, frustrations, and concerns. The climate in our world has changed drastically, but the good news is, believers have an edge.
We get to show the world what it looks like to stay anchored to God’s Heart during these times. We won’t deny that it’s scary out there and things feel uncertain, but we serve a God we can trust with the uncertainty. I know there are times when we quote scriptures during difficulties and people start to feel like it’s cliché. I can admit that I struggle to give people bible verses when they’re hurting and going through hard times. It could feel like I’m giving them pre-recorded responses and reactions to their real-life pain and sorrows.
While the word of God is the answer to everything and when we do quote those scriptures, they are indeed truth, it doesn’t change the fact that they can come off lacking empathy during moments of crises. With all of this, there’s a way to stay anchored to God’s Heart and trust His word over headlines.
Whenever I’m faced with world news that’s daunting and upsetting, I focus my attention on Isaiah 40. This passage of scripture is so powerful. Essentially, Isaiah is reminding God’s people of His power despite the trouble they are currently facing. I didn’t know whether I wanted to title this article Anchored to God’s Heart or Trusting God’s Word Over Headlines. What I did know is that I wanted to provide insight on how to stay anchored in Christ no matter what’s going on around us.
1) Trust God’s Heart when you can’t trace His Hand. We’ve heard this quite a bit, but I believe this is what has kept me throughout the last five years. Since the pandemic, things have felt shakier and scarier than they ever have before. One thing I’ve found that has kept me anchored to God’s Heart is trusting His Heart for me. Trusting God’s Heart is all about knowing it. If you don’t spend any time with Him, then you won’t know that you can trust Him. Trusting God isn’t about marking something off a checklist. It’s living a lifestyle of trust that even when you can’t trace where He is, you know He’s tracing you.
2) Stop reading news that doesn’t pertain to you. Listen, I’m the first to admit that I cried when I heard about the passing of Chadwick Boseman, along with other celebrities that I don’t know personally. However, sometimes, our feed is filled with things and people that have nothing to do with us. To stand on God’s word despite the headlines, you may have to unfollow some pages and people to guard your heart. You can’t control what the news reports, but you can control how much it has access to your heart. Don’t let the idea that you’ll miss out on something keep you from guarding your heart with wisdom.
3) Read and study the word. This may seem redundant, but you’d be surprised how many Christians still struggle with consistently reading and studying the Bible. We have to get and stay rooted in the word of God to stay anchored to His Heart. God’s Heart for us can be found on the pages of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, but if you’re still stuck on Genesis 1:1, then you’ll never access the full beauty of knowing God’s Heart. Decide this year that you won’t let anything get in the way of your quiet time with God. There are so many resources and tools available to make studying the bible more exciting. I love Bible journaling and using the Blue Letter Bible App to study.
4) Guard your conversations. One of the hardest things for me to do during the pandemic was guarding my conversations. While I could control my mouth, I worked at a bank during the pandemic, which meant, I was around other people. I was annoyed that no matter how much I didn’t watch the news, I had to hear other people reporting it. I chose to stand alone in this season. Other people were snacking on fear and discussing it, but I had to guard my conversations. This meant feeling like a loner during workplace conversations. When I did participate, it was when the Holy Spirit led me to, which gave me a chance to provide hope in moments of fear.
5) Be a source of hope. If you’re like me, you may lead a fearless life that showcases a bold faith. I moved in the middle of the pandemic from Philly to Atlanta on an instruction from God. I’m pretty fearless. Being this way allows me to be a source of hope among all the dark headlines. One of the ways I do this is through this magazine. Instead of complaining about the headlines or trying to compete with the noise online, God told me to be a solution. What better way to be a source of hope than to provide headlines straight from heaven? Ask God how you can be a source of hope using your platform. You can do this by posting scriptures with personal reflection online or providing comfort to those close to you uniquely and creatively.
The key to staying anchored to God’s Heart in this season is to know His Heart by studying His word, seeking His face in prayer, asking Him what’s on His Heart before dropping all of your requests off, and lastly, being a vessel of hope for others.
Which one of these jumped out to you the most? How do you stay anchored to God’s heart and how do you plan on doing it in 2025?
The Business of Wisdom
During the first quarter of the year, many believers feel led to work on a business idea that God has given them. January and February are heavy planning months for new entrepreneurs looking to launch into the deep. While this is admirable, you don’t want to launch into anything new without having a foundation of wisdom that will help you build God’s wa…
How Speaking Life to Our Men Creates Healthy Environments
Ladies, we have to do better. My heart aches every time I hear our men say, “It’s the way she talks to me that upsets me”. I was watching a men’s panel from a conference back in April 2024 after God had already started to download this article to my spirit. That men’s panel just confirmed why this piece would be so timely. I put this under the health se…
Anchoring Your Entertainment Choices to God's Heart
It’s not just TV and it’s not just music. When I hear believers say this, I cringe. We, of all people, should know that everything starts in the spirit realm. It’s either the kingdom of God or the kingdom of darkness. Taking this into account, I want to be sure you’re equipped in this new year to anchor your entertainment choices to God’s Heart.
Finding Love Within
I get a lot of questions on how I’m able to maintain my abstinence and not date as a 40-year-old woman. I also get reactions of shock when I explain that I’m still single. To many people, I’m beautiful, educated, driven, and anointed, which is the recipe for a great wife. I won’t argue those points, but one of the things I’ve learned to do is trust God …
90s Girl Faith Era
When this idea hit me, I felt the 90s girl in me smiling big. Here’s the thing: We always talk about 90s music, TV shows, and even fashion, but we never hear about the 90s girl faith era. What is that, you ask? Let’s go on a journey.
